Frequently Asked Questions
The membrane is very thin but completely dense and has no pores at all! Gas transfer happens fully diffusively on the molecular structure, this is why we have no sticking or bubbles – regardless of cell density.
Autoclaving is recommended for maximum sterility. The following parameters are required: 121 C for 20 minutes (~15 PSI); End temp. 70 C; 134 °C not suitable! BioThrust consumables cannot be gamma sterilized as the membrane material is not resistant to radiation! Cleaning with ethanol, detergent or other “regular” methods is fine
Our SUBs are Research Use Only (RUO) at this time. But, materials used in the bioreactors are all medical grade and have passed clinical risk assessments already. Leachable and extractable tests have confirmed that no plastic materials contaminate the media.
For optimal scale up and reproducible results, either the full stated vessel volume or half the vessel volume should be used (media filled up to half of the MemStir height). E.g., for 300mL, the WVs are 150mL or 300mL. Please note that full vessel volume always guarantees minimal shear force!
